I am a socially, politically, and environmentally engaged artist—an earth artist, expressive artist, art educator, and change maker. My work, both personal and community-based, is deeply informed by place.
Earth, land, fire, trauma, wounding, healing, scars.
We come from Earth. We return to Earth.
For over two decades, I have lived and worked in rural and under-resourced Lake County, California—a brief moment compared to the over 15,000 years that the original people of this place have been here. This land, marked by natural beauty and the scars of wildfires, informs my art and community projects.
My formative years in Israel—a land steeped in ancient history and ongoing conflict—also shape my understanding of place, resilience, and healing.
I work with earth-clay, mud, straw, grasses, twine, and found pruned manzanita and oak branches. These materials, harvested from various elevations in Lake County, are primordial, colorful, and alive—a composting blend of ancient past, decaying present, and the fertile potential of the future. Temporary and transmuting; transitioning, and hopefully evolving.
If left untreated, my works decompose, like all organic matter. This impermanence prompts reflection: What impact have we made? What nourishment can we leave behind for those who come after us?
As the Executive and Artistic Director of the Middletown Art Center, I have led the curation of over 45 exhibits and facilitated numerous community-based art projects, especially in the aftermath of devastating wildfires. Through art, we process trauma, foster resilience, and build community.
Art is also a bridge. My work aims to connect people across cultures and lived experiences, nurturing empathy and dialogue through creative expression. In a world divided by borders and beliefs, art offers common ground.
